VeraAlert on your phone: turning on notifications on Android and iPhone
Free VeraAlert sends one notification a day to your phone, with the number of official notices dated today or yesterday that match the countries and categories you have chosen. The notification also arrives on days without any notice. Turning it on takes place once per device.
Before you start
- Account: the free plan is registered from the Pricing page and needs no card.
- Countries and categories: you choose them at registration and can change them at any time in the notification settings.
- Time: by default the notification goes out at 18:00 Berlin time, and the same settings change it.
Android
- 1. Open veraterms.com in Chrome and sign in.
- 2. Open the notification settings (veraterms.com/konto).
- 3. In the box “Notifications on this device”, tap “Turn on notifications”.
- 4. When Chrome asks, allow notifications.
- 5. The box now reads “Notifications are on for this device”.
This procedure has been tested in Chrome on Android.
iPhone
The iPhone allows notifications from a website only when the page has been added to the Home Screen and is opened from there. iOS 16.4 or later is required. This is why turning it on has one extra step.
- 1. Open veraterms.com in Safari.
- 2. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
- 3. Choose “Add to Home Screen” and tap “Add”.
- 4. Close Safari and open VeraAlert from the new icon on the Home Screen.
- 5. You may need to sign in again, because the Home Screen app keeps its own sign-in.
- 6. Open the notification settings, tap “Turn on notifications” and allow them when the iPhone asks.
A VeraAlert notification has been confirmed to arrive on an iPhone running iOS 18 when the page is on the Home Screen.
What the notification shows
The notification shows the number of new notices of the day, for example (2). On days without new notices it says so. Tapping it opens the page with the notices, each with the link to its official source. The page also shows older notices that match your settings, such as those from Safety Gate, with their real date.
If the notification does not arrive
- Every device is turned on separately: phone, tablet and computer.
- Android: check in the phone settings that Chrome may send notifications.
- iPhone: check in Settings, under Notifications, that they are on for the icon you added.
- After a tap on “Block” the button does not appear. Allow notifications in the device settings first, then open the page again.
- If the notifications ever stop, the button appears again in the notification settings.
Free and Personal
On the free plan the overview arrives as a notification on the phone. Vera Personal (50 € a year) adds the daily email, up to 100 keywords of your own and Family Peace.
