How to search the Safety Gate yourself
The database is public. No account and no professional status is needed. Below we explain what it holds, how it is filtered, and what does not follow from it.
What the Safety Gate is
It is the European rapid alert system for dangerous products that are not food. Its operation is governed by Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety. 31 European countries take part in the exchange of information together with the European Commission.
What it does not cover
Food, medicinal products and medical devices sit outside the system. They have their own: the RASFF for food, and the competent national authorities for medicines and medical devices.
How an alert gets there
A national market surveillance authority finds a dangerous product on its market and enters the alert. National authorities can submit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the information is circulated automatically to all participating authorities. Each of them then checks its own market.
A change to an alert, or its withdrawal, can be requested only by the national authority that entered it.

- product category (toys, cosmetics, electrical appliances, motor vehicles, clothing and others)
- notifying country
- type of risk (chemical, choking, electric shock, fire, injuries and others)
- alert number
- week of publication
The weekly report
The Commission publishes weekly reports of the most recent alerts. An email subscription is available, either for the whole report or narrowed to particular product categories, types of risk or countries.
The language point
The summarised version of each alert is published on the portal and automatically machine-translated from English into all the languages of the participating countries, as well as into Arabic and Ukrainian. The alert can therefore be read without English.
The translation is machine-made, however. The text that governs is the original from the notifying authority.
What an alert contains
The type of product, a description of the risk, the measures taken by the economic operator or ordered by the authority, and the country that made the notification.
What it does not contain
The system records what national authorities found and notified. It is not a list of every dangerous product in circulation, and it is not an assessment of a brand. The absence of a product from the portal is not a statement of safety, only an absence of notification.
